Imac Late 2015 Os Update

Firstly, reinstalling Big Sur via Recovery Mode will not downgrade to Big Sur 11.5.0 as that version is not longer available.

Macuser2015 Said: 'MAC OS UPDATE: Does anyone know if iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2015) running Sierra can be upgraded/updated to High Sierra or later thanks' For Note: To go past High Sierra (Mojave, Catalina, or Big Sur), you have to upgrade to High Sierra first, then proceed with the upgrade to any of those three. Like other upgrades that have come before it, you can install the update by downloading it from the Mac App Store. In 2021, the following Mac models will be able to download and install macOS 12.0 Monterey: iMac (late 2015 and newer) iMac Pro (2017 and newer) MacBook Air (early 2015 and newer) MacBook Pro (early 2015 and newer).

Secondly, the Recovery Mode will only re-download the most recent version which is Big Sur 11.5.1 and will install over the existing version. It Will replace any missing or corrupted System files and not touch your Applications, Settings and personal documents.

The messed up previous installation may have presented issues wherein additional Volumes have been created and occupying unneeded space on the drive.

As for Time Machine Backup and reverting - Question. Has the existing TM Backup drive been used since the Big Sur Installation OR has it remained unused ?? Important question as this may be a factor in Reverting to Previous Operation System
